Elizabeth Warren has built quite a brand for herself as the Senate’s own mouse that roared. Unfortunately, this little rodent has a single-note repertoire. Launching her brand on the ashes of Occupy Wall Street, she tuned her dog whistle to play the Banks are Bad anthem, ginning up Les Milquetoast Miserables into a furious mob of … bank haters. Unfortunately, this brand of leftist fauxletariat angst speaks only to the $4 latte generation, sidelining racial and LGBT discrimination as “identity politics”, and reducing reproductive choice to a disposable bargaining chip.
It’s so rare for her to talk about anything but Wall Street that she cannot be considered an ally in any sense of the word. She simply isn’t present for disenfranchised people. The dialogue her constituents need from her doesn’t have a place to start- she uses her Senate office like a bunker, and her podium as a shield. People and their needs are inconvenient. Taking a page out of Bernie’s book, she assures us that economic equality will magically reach everyone. Discrimination will simply evaporate under the blinding glare of equity, once a higher minimum wage is passed.
Like Bernie, Warren’s general manner of speaking is childish and rife with cliches about the evils of millionaires and bankers. Warren and Sanders have both managed to demonize the generic and mythical collective called “Wall Street”, completely ignoring the fact that many people who work in money management industries and banking are responsible, ethical, and honest LIBERALS who contribute their wealth back into the community by supporting progressive candidates. The websites tracking where funding comes from will list these individuals under their employers’ names, making it appear the corporation itself is making the donations. This is a grossly irresponsible flaw on the part of the data collectors, even though they have posted disclaimers in bright red letters on their sites making it clear the donations come from individuals.
As far as trade agreements go, America is dead in the water economically if we do not participate in the world market. Hillary demanded worker protections for the TPP- everyone else just wanted to scrap it, which is childish and destructive. A nuanced and pragmatic approach to financial regulations is critical for a healthy economy and this is an important discussion that should not be boiled down to short soundbytes.
Warren would be a weak contender for 2020. Her Twitter war with Trump was embarrassing and tacky. The GOP has won entire elections on slogans- let’s not normalize the exchange of 140 character salvos as an acceptable means of discourse, either for campaigning or for the main avenue through which politicians communicate with the public. We need to return to press conferences and written communiqués that are well thought-out and can be taken seriously. If you mean what you say, you shouldn’t be afraid to go on the record and explain yourself in depth, and we cannot demand the same of our adversaries if we sink to their level of petty insults.
The alt-left have made it clear they are fully willing to spoil elections without remorse, and the media is complicit by helping them brand TRUE Democrats as “establishment”. WE need to call out the alt-left for being FAKE progressives. They are nothing but a playpen full of agitprop babies, teething on Guevarian myths of gonzo-revolutionary glory, sanitized almost to Disney standards to downplay the failure of these little bloodbaths and the bigotry and oppression waged against disenfranchised groups by their own heroes. Che Guevara was a racist who oppressed black Cubans and murdered LGBT people, burned books, and banned music. In the name of freedom.
Bernie Sanders has dismissed social justice as “identity politics”, releasing privileged white racists and misogynists from any responsibility they have toward leveling the playing field or even protecting the basic civil liberties of disenfranchised groups. That doesn’t stop Warren and Sanders from draping themselves in the slang and rhetoric of revolution to make themselves appear relevant and connected to a generation they only seek to deceive. They have identified a niche of lazy and narcissistic neophytes, ripe for the picking. Bernie launched his presidential bid on campuses, deliberately confusing and recruiting inexperienced new voters in order to cripple the Democratic Party for his life-long agenda of clearing the way for a handful of ego-tripping 3rd party politicians who cannot attract a following on their accomplishments and platform alone. Elizabeth Warren has been only too happy to ride his coattails, with an equally short list of personal accomplishments. Actions speak louder than words, but the alt-left is determined to drown us out by sheer volume. Strangely, when you turn the dial up to eleven, you can hear Russian voices in the background.
I’m sure I’m not the first person who was deliberately pushed out of a job in which younger workers were preferred. The means used to get rid of the older workers was a series of tough projects that “required” us to put in multiple 48-hour stints to meet an arbitrary deadline. This has become a common practice to get rid of workers who have been around long enough to see their paychecks pick up a few raises more than the company would prefer to pay. Aside from being unethical and ageist. this practice is creating a generation of workers who actually believe their physical stamina makes them superior to experienced workers.
Age-baiting has become commonplace in political campaigns, with younger candidates talking about their energy and attacking their opponents for minor illnesses. Dismissing decades of knowledge and life experience is not only rude, it’s dangerous and destructive. On social media, older activists are also seeing a spectacular degree of dishonesty from the people who age-bait, as we see a trend emerging in which evidence that is presented to them is ignored out of hand, in favor of alt-left hearsay. At some point, information itself became tainted with an expiration date, regardless of whether or not it was disproved or new information replaced it. If your facts are somehow not connected with “breaking news”, don’t expect your point of view to be considered validated. “Ghosting” on a debate is the new version of getting the last word in.
60’s activists read books and newspapers from all over the world. They were artists, writers, musicians, and scholars who recognized the value of knowledge and the importance of forming a cohesive resistance against corporatism. The majority of them made immense personal sacrifices, giving up the security of their families and jobs in order to challenge the bigotry, sexism, and creative stagnation of society.
They transformed and enhanced the Democratic Party, and their efforts were rewarded by the emergence of strong liberal candidates like Kennedy and McGovern. They immersed themselves in politics and understood history better than most college professors. They saw the evidence that incremental progress created positive changes that lasted. They were willing to take the long view and protect the advancements of those who paved the way before them. They never rested on their laurels, understanding that our civil liberties are fragile, and along with our public safety nets, will always be a target for a parasitic class of shameless profiteers.
These old warriors are slipping into the sunset now, battle-weary and sick at heart. They have every reason to be despondent, as so few of the newest activists are worthy or willing to carry their torches forward with the integrity and commitment necessary for the complex battles that lie ahead.
Fame is the new coin of the realm, and today’s mewling tantrum throwers care only to make a name for themselves, cynically calculating every move and wardrobe change as it relates to their personal branding. Their self worth is measured by their popularity on social media. They reject the progress that was already underway because the credit is already assigned to someone else. The younger generation wants recognition, they want notoriety, either good or bad. They crave a form of virally explosive glory. Political activism offers an avenue to a special kind of warrior cred. Positive change can be accomplished toward this end. Unfortunately, they just don’t want to do the work. Destructive activities deliver the drug of fame much faster and with less effort.
A revolution is for a nation in decline. Ours was a country in recovery, as evidenced by our ability to elect Barack Obama twice, and to witness the first woman presidential candidate in history win more votes than any other candidate other than Obama himself. There is just no way to justify a backlash against such a beautifully successful movement that was just starting to exert real strength on so many fronts.
I turned 18 in 1982. I was grateful to the generations of liberals who came before me and I respected their achievements. I did my part without worrying about my image or wondering if I would ever get on TV or receive a million hits on a blog. I never had a problem with the idea of “toiling in obscurity”. Have decades of reality TV and the concept of being famous just for being famous created a generation of mirror-dwelling attention addicts?
The solipsism of a third generation of latchkey kids collided with the narcissistic entitlement of the first wave of helicopter children, and the macro lens that engulfed them both demanded that they recreate the world in their own image, recasting liberal heroes as establishment villains who must be shipped off to Shady Pines lest Western Civilization fester and collapse in an endless string of lanai decks in a quiet suburb of Miami. But hey, isn’t it a good thing that SOMEONE is out there reaming the Kochfunded oligarchs? Unfortunately, the kids have decided THAT war is already lost, it’s somehow OUR fault that cheating, gerrymandering and voter suppression happened, and it’s somehow our responsibility alone to clean up that mess.
In true T-Ball Champion form, the “Our Revolution” crew has decided to simply duck the GOP’s knuckleballs, letting them just zing past their heads, while they bunt with all the bases loaded, whining that the exhausted old-school activists aren’t clocking that ball over exactly the right board in the right section of the back fence so they can saunter on home with plenty of time to snag that unicorn latte. If we can’t hit a triple with every swing, we’re benched, never mind that we got the team to the Series in the first place. In this era of age-baiting, experience means you’ve been around too long. The more you know, the closer you are to being dead. That would be fine if they wanted the information that we have gleaned throughout our decades on this planet, but they would rather reinvent the wheel, no matter how much blood must be spilled for that magical “I Carved An Axle” participation trophy.
It’s my torch. I’ll pass it when you actually start fighting the bad guys.
All pregnancies are caused by men allowing their sperm to leave their bodies.
And in 99.9999999% cases of conception, the man has not only allowed the sperm to leave his body, he has deliberately placed the sperm in the reproductive organs of a woman.
A woman is never solely responsible for a pregnancy, and a man always is, because, no matter what a woman says or does, no pregnancy will be caused by her actions.
She never has control of sperm, even after it is placed in her body, so every pregnancy is caused by a man either accidentally failing or deliberately refusing to keep his sperm inside his own body.
All men whose bodies produce sperm should be paying a reproduction hazard tax just because they have the potential to cause pregnancies, and that money should be available to women, no questions asked, to pay for any reproduction-related expenses, from pap smears, to pelvic exams, to birth control, to abortion, to prenatal healthcare, to child birth, to pediatric care, to daycare, to pediatric orthodontia, to college tuition.
In the U.S., women are oppressed, punished, fined, denied political power, and denied economic power, by society and by government institutions, based on pregnancy, because, apparently, our society and government don’t know that men cause pregnancies.
Women in the U.S. are required to shoulder the economic burden of reproduction while simultaneously being denied the economic power we need in order to do that, and the irony is that a woman’s potential for reproduction is cited as the excuse for repressing the economic power she needs in order to pay for reproduction.
The sole reason for gender-based economic inequality is reproduction.
Reproduction is used as the excuse to deny women jobs, to deny women advancement opportunities in their jobs, and to pay women less, and the glaring injustice of it is that we’re not the ones who should be paying for the costs of reproduction, because we don’t even cause reproduction – men do.
The purpose of the government is to protect the general public from the abuses of wealthy individuals and corporations. Democrats are the only true representatives of individual freedom. We protect the poor, the elderly, the disabled, veterans, and families, we support universal health care, we keep the economy stable, we create jobs, we fight tirelessly for civil rights, we protect the environment, and we re-establish America’s reputation around the world as a benevolent leader, after war-for-profit GOP scumbags trash our good name over and over again.
All Republican politicians are political shills, bought and paid for by the Koch brothers, Big Oil, and the MIC. Every agenda Teabaggers, Republicans and Libertarians pursue serves to increase the power of wealthy individuals and corporations, to the extreme detriment of society. They give tax breaks to the wealthiest individuals who did NOT work for their wealth, as the middle class does, but inherited it from their robber-baron ancestors. Republicans give subsidies to gross polluters like Exxon, even though they have posted record profits through the entire duration of the recession. Republicans attack social safety nets, threatening the very lives of seniors, and leaving the most vulnerable of citizens living hand to mouth, just one paycheck from the street. Republicans wage war on the individual rights of women to control their own bodies, while promoting the rights of bullies to open-carry loaded weapons in public, even in schools. Republicans cut budgets for education, and then demand that their personal religious dogma is given equal time in class with science. Republicans demonize desperate immigrant children, sending them back across the border to face many dangers, including starvation and murder.
And the most UN-American agenda of all: Republicans attack the election process, on which our very democracy is based! Republicans overturn desperately needed protections for voting rights, they use gerrymandering and unnecessary voter ID hurdles to target populations that do not favor their political party. Republicans illegally remove people from voting rolls, and hire criminals to set up fake registration booths to collect registration cards, discarding the ones who register as Democrats. Republicans rig electronic voting machines, delivering them pre-loaded to the polls with their party’s votes. Republicans shorten voting hours, Republicans eliminate polling sites, Republicans make people wait in line for hours until they give up. Republicans file illegal challenges to voting status of minority voters. Republicans block poll helpers from offering water and chairs to seniors forced to wait in the hot sun for hours. But all of their efforts to cheat us, and deprive us of basic human rights only make us more determined to fight their sick little cult of hate.
One thing that all liberals need to address is our tendency to project our own sense of fair play onto those who have not demonstrated this characteristic independently. Stop trying to rescue the hateful and the horrible by imbuing them with an integrity they do not possess. It is simply a fact that the truth has a liberal bias. Common decency has a liberal bias. The political positions that have the best consequences for people and the planet are all liberal viewpoints. To give equal weight to conservative ideas is not fairness- it is putting a thumb on the scale on the side of conservatism to present a contrived neutrality. The moral and ethical high road belongs to liberals. It’s time that we defend it aggressively.

After spending a portion of the day listening to a procession of Donald Trump sycophants attack a messenger, Jessica Leeds, rather than her message of his trying to sexually force himself onto her, things need to be said.
On the issue of the timing of Ms. Leeds coming forward: it is NOT for anyone, certainly not for a failed campaign manager–ehhh…Corey Lewandowski–to decide when and/or if a woman is prepared to come forward to publicly reveal exactly and in what manner she was sexually assaulted. Period. Not open for discussion. Simply because a woman chooses to keep it to herself DOES NOT mean it didn’t happen, nor does it make it any LESS relevant. No matter how many years or decades latter the revelation takes place.
Whether or not the several women coming forward NOW was politically motivated: Trump HIMSELF motivated Ms. Leeds and others to come forward by denying he ever forced himself onto a woman, during the second debate. Prior to that denial, Ms Reed told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, she thought the assault perpetrated against her just wasn’t important enough to bring up. But she became furious when The Donald claimed he was guilty of no such behavior.
Trump’s defense: Go ahead, look at them…Would I bother to assault THEM?!?: This said at a rally on Thursday after Natasha Stoynoff, a writer for People Magazine, became the second woman in two days to come forward by writing an article detailing her own personal experience with Trump’s lascivious behavior. So going back to the Carly Fiorinaesque insults concerning a woman’s looks seemed like a good defensive measure to him? Really?? It’s almost as if the man was bragging: They aren’t attractive enough for me to assault, cause I only force myself on REAL “..pieces of ass.” So take that!
The idolators and Trump excusers can attempt to spin this any way they like but the fact remains: He brought these further allegations upon himself by proclaiming in front of a televised debate audience of 60 million that nobody respects women more than himself and when pointedly questioned, Donald Trump answered no, he has never forced himself on a woman.
Did he actually believe no woman would dare come forward at this point? Or has he just done this SO MANY times he is completely clueless as to the number of those he groped, acted inappropriately with, violated, assaulted, purposely went backstage of a pageant while young women–including teens as young as 13–were half or completely undressed, over the decades??
Republicans like to decry “entitlements” like Social Security and Medicare by claiming the costs are no longer affordable. Whatever the expenditure of those programs, the cost pales in comparison to the damage done by a wealthy elitist such as Donald Trump who believe laws don’t apply to the likes of him. That because he’s a “star,” he can get away with any behavior, any action, he chooses. Or not paying taxes for decades makes him “smart,” and by extension, everyone who DOES is stupid.
Those of us who see Trump for what he truly is, not as do the millions who view the man only for how they wish him to be, needn’t be told how disastrous it would be for our children and grandchildren, for the nation, the world, should this person become the next president.
The oath taken by whomever wins this election: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
The only thing Donald Trump would be preserving and protecting would be himself. As the leader of the free world, nothing would be “free,”–not speech, certainly not the press. Anyone who doubts this need only look at the man’s long history of ignoring laws, believing himself above the law. We’ve already had one such president, Richard M. Nixon.
We definitely don’t need another.

A very large part of the Republican Party has long been a Neo-Neanderthal, militarily militant, Boys-Will-Be-Boys club. It continues to be a political party dominated by emotionally bankrupt, albeit fabulously financially wealthy white men who cling to militarism as a means of proving to themselves, each other–and the world–they really do have the largest genitalia in the world. This view of self is vitally important to their fragile egos and effects how such males interact with each other and everyone else.
It meshes perfectly with the outmoded view those so called Alpha males have of women as mere objects breathlessly awaiting such manly men, women eager to be conquered. SomeTHING–far more so than someONE–ready, very willing and oh so able to be reduced to nothing more than another notch carved into a pelt, proudly displayed to their knuckle dragging cohorts while dancing around the nightly campfire.
At the same time, in order to expand its voting base, Republicans struck an unholy alliance to become the Party of the self righteously pious religious zealots. This includes the holier than though super riche–remember Mitt(ens) Romney’s condescending “47%” crack about those who will always vote Democratic because they are addicted to “entitlements.”
The extreme values of one or the other of those seemingly paradoxical wings doomed each of the past two GOP presidential nominees. Those same deeply held beliefs (or a decided lack thereof) as displayed by current candidate Donald Trump, have exploded front and center of the public consciousness, in addition to smacking right in the collective kisser of the Republican Old Guard establishment.
Yet the very same über rightist elites who view themselves as kingmakers, along with those religious zealots, all willingly ignored Trump’s LONG history of misogynistic and demeaning commentary, his countless incidents of adultery which lead to a pair of messy divorces, the five children by three different wives.
That high ranking Republicans now attempt to wrap themselves in a glorious cloak of righteous indignation, since multiple videos have surfaced displaying the depth and breadth of Donald Trump’s long held sexism and inability to view the vast majority of women as anything more than just playthings for his pleasure, is pure hypocrisy.
RNC Chair Reince Priebus, House Speaker Paul Ryan and even VP nominee Mike Pence have all issued the standard “I’m shocked I tell you, shocked!” statements. Yet, when each hitched their own little wagons to The Donald, all KNEW–or should have known–precisely what kind of person Trump is: he is a P-I-G, pig. Not to mention a tax cheat, a fraud, a malignant narcissist, a pathological liar and hypo maniac.
Trump’s moral compass deems his screwing the married wife of another man as nothing more than a peccadillo, a personal shortcoming. The same holds true for remarks made which show, in his mind, how much he has sexualized his own daughter by declaring her to be “…a piece of ass…with a great body” someone he would “…definitely date, were I not her father.”
Business wise, his penchant for bilking taxpayers, banks and additional financiers, his partners along with other investors, has forced Trump to presently seek funding from predominantly foreign sources as precious few domestic ones will now finance his projects. Further, the way in which he has swindled mobs of small business owners out of billions of dollars for their efforts to supply his various undertakings with goods and/or services, ranks tragically high in the history of American jurisprudence.
THAT is the kind of person he is.
He also has a tax exempt charitable Foundation but never bothered to fill out the state mandated paperwork so the “charity” could publicly solicit contributions–not that it does charitable work, apparently it exists to serve a different purpose–nor has he made any personal contributions to it in nearly nine years.
Speaking of tax exemptions, the truth has finally been revealed as to why he steadfastly refused to release his personal returns: the man has paid NO federal income tax for at least the last two decades. It’s doubtful he paid any state income taxes to either New York or New Jersey, too. Most likely, he has paid nothing stretching all the way back to the mid Seventies. NOT paying taxes makes him “smart,” he sniffed.
Which in Trump World, makes everyone else stupid.
Furthermore, Donald Trump is the kind of person who used his Foundation as a personal slush fund, utilizing it to pay off court ordered fines levied against him for various misdeeds. A large painted portrait of himself hangs in his office, illegally purchased with Foundation funding. A bribe disguised as a campaign “contribution” was given to the State of Florida attorney general, with funds from the Trump Foundation. This so the AG wouldn’t investigate his “university” scam, the one that grifted money from gullible people under the guise they could learn his real estate “secrets.”
THAT kind of person.
Reince Priebus and his crew of establishment elitists have chosen to condemn Trump for behavior the kingmakers, the sanctimonious religious zealots, his sycophants, the idolators, all disregarded to this point. Behavior so willfully ignored whilst borne by an obsessive desperation to maintain control of congress, an ignorance on their parts manifested by the virulent lust for power which grips the uppermost echelons of the Republican Party like a Facehugger from the Alien films.
With Trump rammed down the throat of the rightist extremist established order–against its collective better judgment–by its own electorate, is it any wonder a new political life form burst forth from the twitching carcass of the GOP? Trump is a never before seen political hybrid which weds the absolute worst of both wings of his party then was combined with a person who epitomizes the absolute dregs of human sociopathy. While still maintaining The Donald’s trademark megalomania and raging egomania, of course, not to mention the almost daily demonstrated inability to keep his mouth shut for intervals longer than three seconds.
So now Priebus and the rest of his fellow travelers are stuck with their political monstrosity, one utterly alien to the history of, and totally oblivious to, the decorum of the presidential election process. They have no one to blame but themselves, seeing as how the frenetic fervor for power elucidated by the entire GOP over the past four years has led them down this disastrous political path they chose to traverse.
That the Trump candidacy was supported by the majority of Republicans against the better judgment of much of the Old Guard–GHW Bush, Jeb! Bush and Mitt(ens) Romney, to name but a few–only served to highlight exactly how much of an immensely high risk, possible high reward gamble it has all been.
Despite initially tenuous initial support offered The Candidate by aged party war horses the likes of John McCain and Bob Dole, the gamble will not only cost the GOP the presidency but the senate, too. Add in the chunk of seats Democrats will likely carve out of the current Republican majority in the House and the Trump/Pence ticket could well prove to be the most devastatingly bad presidential pairing perpetuated on the public by either party since Barry Goldwater/William E. Miller in 1964.
For today’s Republican Party is thoroughly deceitful and a complete disgrace. It is the SAME party that has ritualistically sermonized the nation and the world about FAMILY VALUES for decades. Even going so far as to get a severely right leaning Supreme Court to rule women needed the permission of their employer in order to get contraception through company provided health care, in an attempt to force their own religious beliefs onto all working women.
The SAME party passed laws in red state after red state which targeted for closing women’s health care providers and Planned Parenthood facilities. Laws intended to limit the personal freedom and the right of self determination for women in this country.
The Republican Party has moralistically pontificated for decades about an imaginary “war on Christianity,” bombastically prattled about the “Gay mafia” and greatly lamented a perceived decline in the importance of the nuclear family. In response, phony “religious freedom” bills were passed in several states dominated by both a Republican governor and state legislature–VP candidate Mike Pence’s state of Indiana, for one–which legalized discrimination against the LGBTQ community and Muslims.
North Carolina governor Pat McCrory, a former employee and dedicated tool of the state’s largest utility company, signed into law a bill targeting the bathroom choices for transgender individuals. Bills such as those are meant to do but one thing: deny the constitutional guarantees to all Americans of equal rights and equal protection under the law.
The erstwhile Grand Old Party, which consistently pounds its chest proclaiming a great patriotic love of the US Constitution while continuing attempts to erode it, put into motion a Supreme Court challenge to the Voting Rights Act which when upheld, now restricts the most basic of all American freedoms.
Taking the gutting of part of the VRA further, bright red states passed laws to severely limit the number of days citizens can vote early, many hundreds of polling places were closed, forcing people–predominantly minorities and college age students–to stand five hours or longer in order to have their voices heard. Voter ID laws were passed in many GOP controlled states in attempts to impede the working poor, minorities, even married women, from casting a ballot.
The EXACT SAME political party now tolerates and condones behavior exhibited by Trump which it once excoriated. TV sycophants and Trump idolators make excuses and apologize for his untenable behavior and outlandish statements. Behavior reminiscent of that which the GOP once used to justify its attempt to remove a Democrat from the presidency, twenty years ago.
Disavowing Donald Trump, un-endorsing him, is not enough. All those do is proclaim to the country that while you might find him completely despicable and an all together loathsome person, he is YOUR completely despicable and all together loathsome person.
Exactly what does such rationalization say about the kind of person who supports Trump???
